Same Country, Different World

Grenfield Valley Heritage Park

Greenfield Dock was once one of the busiest ports on the river Dee. Built in the 1700’s to transport supplies and commodities to and from the cotton and copper mills at Greenfield Valley, up to 40 vessels regularly carried cargoes of between 30 – 50 tonnes.

About us

In the early 1800’s, boats from Greenfield served a different purpose, ferrying passengers from Liverpool and Lancashire en route to St Winefride’s Well in search of cures and spiritual guidance. Today, the boats you will see at Greenfield Dock are the brightly coloured boats of local fishermen. 50 licensed cocklers work the estuary between July and December and seasonally, catches of bass, flounder, and shrimp are also landed here.

Whether you arrive here by car (there is ample free parking) or on foot from the Wales Coast Path, Greenfield Dock is a great place to explore. Though it remains an important place of work, the area is now quiet and peaceful, offering beautiful and expansive views across the Estuary.
